After you book your reservation and arrive at your time slot, you’ll check in by name at our tent. We’ll provide a basket and/or flower pitcher (or a cup if you’re picking sunflowers) along with snips for harvesting. We’ll give you a quick overview of what’s ready for picking and how to harvest it properly. Then you’re free to head into the flower or veggie rows and enjoy time together selecting beautiful blooms and nutrient-dense produce. Signs throughout the rows will help you identify what’s growing and how to harvest each crop. Please be gentle with our plants so they can continue producing for you and others. When you’re finished, bring your flowers and veggies back to the check-out tent. We’ll wrap your flowers for you and weigh your vegetables. (We recommend bringing a container with water to transport your flowers home.)
Before you leave, snap a few photos and tag us on social media so we can see your family’s fun and your haul of the day. Then head home feeling good about feeding your family fresh, naturally grown food free of synthetic chemicals.

We’re excited to have you come! We recommend bringing a couple of reusable bags to carry your vegetables home. If you forget, no worries. We have plastic bags we’ve saved from the grocery store available, and our canvas Single Acre Farm bags are also available for purchase.
We want you to have a great time and highly recommend closed-toed shoes (or even boots if it rained the day before)! Comfortable breathable clothing, a hat, sunscreen if needed, water to keep you hydrated and anything else your family may need for an outdoor experience.

We accept cash, credit and debit cards, as well as Apple Pay. Please note that card payments include a small processing fee, so cash is always appreciated.

Spots are released just a few days before each U-Pick date. We’re unable to open reservations further in advance because we can’t guarantee what will be ready for harvest beyond that window.
-
f your plans change, please cancel your spot so another family can enjoy the farm. Simply reply to your ticket confirmation email to let us know. To receive a refund, minus processing fees, cancellations must be made before 7pm the night prior to your reservation. Please allow a few days for refunds to process. Reservations are non-refundable if you do not show up, cancel after 8pm the night before, or bring fewer guests than reserved. Because our spots are limited and often fill quickly, we’re unable to offer refunds after 8pm the night before, regardless of reason, as there isn’t enough time to reopen the space for another family.

We open in the spring for flower U-Pick, with exact dates determined by Mother Nature, though we anticipate opening by reservation in late March. If weather cooperates, vegetable U-Pick typically begins around the end of May. Each event lasts two hours and usually takes place in the morning, divided into two one-hour time slots so you can choose what works best for you. We operate on a reservation system and limit spots per hour based on parking, crop availability, and our desire to provide a relaxed, enjoyable experience. Prior to each pick, we assess what is ready and release a limited number of spots on our website just a few days in advance, since we cannot guarantee availability further out. All reservations must be made through our website — we are unable to book by email, text, or social media. A reservation is required for each person entering the farm, ages 1 and up, whether they are picking or not. Reservations are $4 per person. Stay tuned to our homepage, Facebook, and Instagram for upcoming dates.

Pricing depends on what you’re picking. Each guest entering the farm (ages 1 and up) requires a $4 reservation; children under 1 are free. Our flower pitchers are $20 and you may fill them with as many blooms as fit (up to 3 sunflowers can be included). At checkout, we’ll wrap your flowers and wash the pitcher for the next guest. Sunflowers are $2 per stem and may be added to your pitcher (up to 3 can be included in your mixed bouquet) or purchased on their own. Slicing tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, and eggplant are $3.50 per pound; cherry tomatoes and sweet peppers are $5 per pound; and hot peppers are $6 per pound (a pound of hot peppers is a lot!). Our pricing is comparable to other locally grown farms with similar practices, including the Matthews Community Farmers Market. You’re welcome to pick as much or as little as you’d like, but if you or your helpers pick it, it must be purchased. Please keep an eye on little hands and only harvest what you can use. Guests who intentionally waste produce or flowers will be asked to leave, not be invited to return, or both.
-
If you’re unable to book a spot, it means reservations are either sold out or have not yet been released. Please check back soon, as new spots are added just a few days before each U-Pick date.
-
If it’s not during a scheduled U-Pick time, we are closed to the public. Please do not stop by without a reservation, as this is our home and we are not able to accommodate walk-ins. When we’re closed to visitors, we’re either working on the farm or spending time with our family. We appreciate your understanding and respect for our space.
-
There’s no need to arrive early. If you’ve made a reservation, your spot is secured and everyone in each time slot begins picking at the same time. Parking is available starting 10 minutes before your scheduled slot, and picking will not begin until your reserved time. Please plan to arrive at the start of your time slot so you can enjoy your full hour in the fields.

Yes, we have bugs and bees on our urban farm, and we welcome them with a smile! Because we don’t use synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, we rely on beneficial insects to help keep plant-eating pests in check. Our bees also play an important role by pollinating our vegetable flowers so they can produce the food you’ll enjoy picking.
-
We love dogs — we have three of our own! However, for food safety reasons and for the safety of your pet, we’re not able to allow dogs or other animals on the farm. We appreciate your understanding.
-
At this time, we do not have a public restroom available on the farm. For cleaning up after picking, we recommend bringing a wet washcloth or wipes to quickly clean hands or knees that may get a little dirty.
-
We’ll remain open if it’s lightly sprinkling, but we will cancel in the event of thunder and lightning for everyone’s safety. If the weather looks questionable the morning of your pick, we’ll make the final call then. Any cancellations will be posted on social media, and you’ll also receive an email and text notification. Around here, the weather can change quickly, so we wait until the morning of to make the best decision possible.

We believe all flowers and vegetables are fancy in their own special way! That said, we focus on growing staple favorites like slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, hot peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, eggplant, and herbs, along with long-lasting, good-for-the-soul flower varieties.
-
We offer preorders on an as-available basis. Our U-Pick guests always receive first choice, and we fill custom orders afterward to ensure we have enough for scheduled pickers. You’ll still receive beautiful flowers and fresh produce, but availability depends on what’s ready. If you’d like to order a special bouquet for pickup or produce for a dinner you’re planning, please text us at 980-328-5581 at least three days in advance. We’ll confirm availability, provide a quote for harvesting and preparing your order, and schedule a convenient pickup time.

We are a two-person farm, so we don’t have office staff checking phones and email throughout the day. Before and during the growing season, we stay busy preparing soil, sowing seeds, transplanting, watering, pruning, pinching, mulching, trellising, harvesting, crop checking… and yes, quite a bit of weeding. Did we mention weeding?
We do our best to return calls, texts, and emails as soon as we can, but sometimes growing your flowers and food has to come first. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

You can email us at TheSingleAcreFarm@gmail.com or text or call us at 980-328-5581. Because we are a working farm, we’re not always able to check our phones or email throughout the day. Please take a moment to read through our FAQs first, as you’ll likely find the answer you’re looking for there. If not, we’ll get back to you as soon as we’re able.
